    I'm a little partial to Southern characters, so I'm gonna have to go with Scout from "To Kill a Mockingbird." (But that spunky little girl, Lucky, in "The Higher Power of Lucky" impressed me, too!)

    Okay, I'll go with some lesser-known real-life historical figures here. Amy Carmichael (cared for orphans in India during the last century) and Roger Williams (championed religious liberty during colonial days in the U.S., founder of Rhode Island.)
