Your summaries remind me of a newer refugee book I love by Patricia Reilly Giff: UNTIL I FIND JULIAN.<br />jan godown anninohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00091996699597066230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375684657483536810.post-45857535235945311962016-12-10T07:33:08.311-06:002016-12-10T07:33:08.311-06:00This is a fabulous list! This is a fabulous list!Mary Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09078793537148794310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375684657483536810.post-62515755163734142892016-12-09T21:16:32.185-06:002016-12-09T21:16:32.185-06:00Wow, what wonderful recommendations. I'm listening to a biography of Eleanor Roosevelt. I am inspired by her tireless advocacy for doing right for everyone in times of such crisis. She gives me hope that I can press on to do good in some way as well. Have a good week. The news today is that more have fled Aleppo. It's a sorrowful time there for so many. My parents had friends from Syria, long ago. I'm sure they are passed on now, but I wonder how their extended family is doing when I hear more news. In We Are The Clouds, I loved Racehorse and We Sing, too. The father showed him big courage, despite what must have been inner fears. Thanks for sharing so much today.Linda Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14983144542632353870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375684657483536810.post-73910284067876793692016-12-09T15:41:07.013-06:002016-12-09T15:41:07.013-06:00Beautiful post, Irene. These voice are so important to our understanding of what millions of displaced people experience, half of them under age 18. Thanks for the other titles and for the poems. I clearly see in the first one the challenge of translation. The Spanish has end rhymes that sound lovely together, and these get lost in the English. Thanks to Donna, I know to which movie to add to my Netflix list!Joyce Rayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02905709719444916488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5375684657483536810.post-16470753586017794672016-12-09T14:37:45.253-06:002016-12-09T14:37:45.253-06:00I just watched "The Boy in the Striped Pajama...I just watched "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" this week on Netflix. Our ancestors were all refugees. I feel a kinship with them, and I wish I could help, too. I also feel for the countries adjusting to the influx, too. Culture clash, resource shortages and misunderstandings are part and parcel of the process.
