HELLO FROM THE NATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL!

...and Happy Poetry Friday to you! The ever-inspiring Tabatha has Roundup The Opposite of Indifference.

By the time you read this, I will either be en route or settling into my hotel. I'm traveling with my best assistant ever, and we have a jam-packed agenda! More on our adventures next week.

Meanwhile, here's a little something I whipped up for the occasion. (Also available as a printable PDF on my website.) It's a scavenger hunt for kids reading DON'T FEED THE BOY!
And here's a little poem that expresses how I am feeling as I leave home:

Something Missing
by Shel Silvestein

I remember I put on my socks,
I remember I put on my shoes.
I remember I put on my tie
That was painted
In beautiful purple and blues.
I remember I put on my coat,
To look perfectly grand at the dance,
Yet I feel there is something
I may have forgot--
What is it? What is it?...

Oh how I wish I was going to the National Book Festival. Enjoy! I could be your assistant some day!! Love your scavenger hunt sheet and will share it with my friends. And your poem, oh my.....reminds me of a TRUE family story. My husband's younger sister went to nursery school at maybe age 4. Told the teacher she was cold. Wasn't a cold day. She was wearing a dress because this was the 50s and had gone down the slide. Turns out she forgot to dress herself completely. Mother had to zip over to school with the missing panties! Too funny.

  5. I always have that "what is it?" feeling when I am packing. What a sweet printable scavenger hunt! Exciting that you are able to go to the festival with the best assistant ever :-) I look forward to hearing about your adventures.

  6. That Shel Silverstein poem reminds me of a very embarrassing story that I will never quite live down. (Sometime, when we meet in person and are sharing a glass of wine, you can ask me about the Harvard Yard story). I'm quite sure your time at National Book Festival will be nothing like that, and I look forward to hearing all about it upon your return!

  7. Hi there Irene, I have myself a best-ever assistant too! I can resonate deeply with this Shel Silverstein poem as I am the girl who forgets most everything. Sadly, I only realize this once I get to my destination. I've had several occasions when I needed to go back home twice just to pick up stuff I inadvertently left behind. On occasion, my best-ever assistant would bring my forgotten smartphone, my misplaced eyeglasses, my missing lipstick to my office. :)
I love those beignets! I also visited Cafe du Monde but in New Orleans, that was quite an experience.
    Have fun at the festival!
