ArtSpeak: RED poem "Because Every Day is a Red-Letter Day"

Hello and Happy Poetry Friday! Be sure to visit for Michelle Kogan for Roundup.

Also, please see my "Friend Friday" guest post over at Kirby Larson's blog, about friends and friendship poems from THIS POEM IS A NEST.

My desk has been stacked this week, as editors close up shop before the holidays, so I will keep most post here short.

I've been thinking about the days we celebrate, and how the work of a poet is to be mindful of the small ordinary miracles, too... and also about how challenging the holidays can be for many of us. What emerged is this poem!

Another shout-out to Richard Jones for sharing his art and welcoming these poems... just  one more ArtSpeak: RED poem to write, and I will post it here next week when I host a Very Merry Poetry Friday Christmas Roundup. :) Thank you for reading!

  1. Yes, despite the struggle this year, I do wake up to joy for a new day, & "wiggle/wander" around, planning for good things to happen. I will miss your red poems, Irene. They have been another joy this year! See you next week on Christmas!

  3. LOVE this poem and have enjoyed all your red poems this year. You always find the best art and respond in interesting and surprising ways. "Chew through the blues" and "wiggle wander wonder wag" are just too cool!

  5. Hahahahaha! I'm typing a quick response as it's 4:20 pm and my Border-Aussie is panting at me in that way that means, "Mom we are losing the light...let's go WALK." Love your Artspeak this past year. You've inspired me and I'm going to give it a go with my selected word. I will read your friendly friday blog post....post-walk because, WALK! The joy of dogs is absolutely contagious!

  7. Another thumbs up for "chew through the blues" such a great line, makes you laugh too, which is good if you're blue. That center little dog looking up is just too cute. I've enjoyed your romps through red this year too, thanks Irene!

  11. This is wonderful, as always, Irene! "Chew through the blues" is great advice, but I love all those w-words: "wiggle, wander, wonder, wag" indeed!

  12. Irene, I hold on to your line "chew through the blues". I have felt the sharpness of pandemic blues this year. Most of my friends who have moved did not feel the struggle of moving as I have but maybe it is because we have a move in and move out during the pandemic and an elderly uncle who just was diagnosed with COVID and pneumonia. He lays in the ER now far away in Central NY. I am looking forward to "wiggle, wander, wonder, wag chew through the blues" time full of joy. Enjoy your holiday. Yeah, for the red poem tied in a Christmas bow next week.
