STORY VS. PLOT

Ever heard the difference between story and plot? I heard it explained like this: In a story, you get "The king died. Then the queen died." If you've got plot, it goes something like "The king died. Then the queen died of grief." So to thicken your story, add plot, which is basically just a cool word for feelings, depth, and motivation for why the characters do what they do. Today, look at your own work and see if you've got plot.

  1. I thought that that the difference between story and plot was that a story is a series of events recorded in their chronological order and a plot is a series of events deliberately arranged so as to reveal their dramatic, thematic, and emotional significance?

  2. I'm in agreement with evei421 - the original post merely shows the difference between a simple story and one that's slightly more detailed.

The plot is the telling of the story and a particular story can be told in many different ways.
