SHOWCASE SUNDAY
Nocturne
- after Van Gogh’s The Starry Night
That it should be
the cypress
and not the steeple
that reaches the heavens
that night should
roil electric
over the sleeping town
stars pulsing
in staccato rhythm,
billowing
across the sky
as if the breath of gods
and this is where
we find ourselves:
hidden
in blue shadows
tracing constellations
on milky skin.
- Irene Latham
In honor of the solar eclipse on the other half of the world, I give you my Nocturne. The sky is wonderfully amazing, but consider skin...
"Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering."
- Saint Augustine
