TRIBE OF MENTORS: Q.4 Your Billboard Message Here

Hello and Happy Spiritual Journey Thursday! Roundup is here. Today we are reflecting on our 2018 One Little Word. We are also signing up for next year.

Welcome also to the latest installment of my TRIBE OF MENTORS by Timothy Ferriss series.

Today's question:

If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it – metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions – what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. (If helpful, it can be someone else's quote: Are there any quote you think of often or live your life by?)

Isn't this a great question on a day when we are discussing words, and the power of words to impact our lives?!

My first thought: Live your poem. I mean, obviously, it's what I celebrate here, on my digital billboard. What does it mean? Well, a lot of things -- and it can mean different things to different people. For me, it means going my own way, being my authentic self, celebrating each moment, diving deep into life, being brave, vulnerable, paying attention, beholding (!), loving the world in the ways that are important to me

What does "live your poem" mean to you? What would your billboard say?

Behold:
sky pinkens at dusk
beaver moon admires itself
in hushed waters
And now, about my 2018 One Little Word "BEHOLD:" I chose this word because I wanted to really pay attention to each moment of my life, to do more than just look: to behold with wonder and awe and joy.

I do think I've done a lot of behold-ing this year. Moving to the lake has allowed much opportunity for appreciating the seasons and wildlife all around us. But the word hasn't been as much a part of my life as in other years... in fact, a couple of times, I had to look on my blog to remember what my word was! Ha ha! I think it's just been a very busy year, full of change. I am looking forward to a quiet-er, more settled 2019.

  1. Love your behold haiku! There's something so lovely and beholding about dusk, one of my favorite times of the day. I'll be back later with my OLW post. Please sign me up for June 6. My topic is significance.

    2. Thanks! I love your OLW, too. "Behold" is a wonderful choice.

  3. "Behold" is such an amazing word. I had the same feelings as you about my word "Flourish" this year. I'd have to stop and think what it was...too many things flourishing around instead of sitting still and flourishing where they were!
I love your Haiku and image - so pretty, both.
I'd love to do February - hoping to be settled by then.
theme "home is where the heart is".

    1. That's the thought for the theme unless I look back and see that was done last year, then I'll change it!

  4. Is the picture your view at the lake--I'd forget stuff too if I had that to look at every day! As for next year, I'm going to hold off with committing myself right now. But please keep me on the email list just the same. Thanks, Irene, and for hosting today!

  5. I actually love your word Behold and how it connects to my word, Explore. I have a small blackboard in my laundry room where I write my OLW so I always see it. Thanks for rounding us up today. I'd like to do August 1st and use the topic Change. Please remind me of this because I will likely forget. But I am thinking about the Heraclitus quote that the only constant is change.

    1. This comment is from Margaret Simon. Not sure why it identified me as "unknown."

  6. Irene, your post today was filled with so many thoughts that caught my interest. The billboard question is one to ponder. Your one word, behold, is such an amazing word and your rationale for choosing it, is eloquently stated. There is so much to behold in this world and it is so evident that your new home is a fitting setting to showcase your word. I am sinking into your image poem. I love it so much that I would like to capture it for my Abundant Autumn Gallery, if that is fine with you. I would like to take the May 2nd spot to host SJ1stT. I am not sure what my topic will be specifically.

  7. Hi Irene: I second your idea that it has been a very busy year. I turned 70 and it is still very busy!!! So this Thursday, when I might have contemplated my word of the year, instead I was hosting 4 grandchildren. Loved it, but totally lost out on sharing. So... my word was resolve, which I choose to think of as re-solving, or solving anew. Isn't that what we are called to do on a continual basis? I have worked at it this year, and have resolved to accept my slower pace, to appreciate the many blessings in my life, to continue to try new things (kettlebells???? really????) and to work toward publishing and getting a blog or two going. I'm also working more at piano and enjoying it, and I have re-solved some of my old beliefs... I can learn how to trill, it just takes loads of work. But... I know how to work. I can do this. Best to you all in the coming year. I will be glad to take a month. My first choice is October.

    1. Karen! I love the thought of you and kettlebells. :) It sounds like you are exactly where you need to be... yes, "I know how to work." We can learn anything if we work at it! October is yours. Thank you! xo
