Beach Dog

Hello and Happy Poetry Friday! Be sure to visit Liz (whose SOCCERVERSE is coming very soon!) at Elizabeth Steinglass for Roundup.

It's been another busy spring week here with travel and school visits and revising and other madness... and more to come! I'm excited to be seeing my mom this weekend... big happy Mother's Day to all the moms among us!

And now, just a little something to share from Rosie's first visit to the beach. :)

Look, Dog –
sand, waves, shells!

Don't be scared, Dog –
driftwood, crabs, gulls.

Go ahead, Dog –
Splash!

Watch out, World –

  3. This poem reminded me of two of my pups for a long while ago. One was a bulldog who would sink like a stone--but loved the water. And the other was a black lab mix (which are supposed to like water) but was afraid of it!

  4. It sounds like Rosie became 'un-scared' very quickly, Irene. What fun to write about her first trip.

  5. Rosie is a beauty! I have an immense soft spot for aussies....my border-aussie is one of the great loves of my life. She is so fun near water, off leash at the park, or anywhere. Enjoy every moment with your new pal.

  6. Rosie had so much fun at the beach. What a smart dog to love what the beach offers. Children will love this poem, Irene. It is short, sweet, and full of summer vibes. I would love to save this one for a summer gallery, children's section. Is that fine?

  8. Fun poem! I'm glad Rosie enjoyed her first beach day :) We were lucky enough to vacation on Dauphin Island a few years ago, and it was lovely. Is Rosie an Australian Shepherd? She looks a lot like our Aussie.
