So... this week I spent wonderful hours with retired teachers in Blount County, Alabama and also with students at Mt. Laurel Elementary. This weekend I will be visiting Camden and Gee's Bend, as well as sharing MEET MISS FANCY Monroeville Literary Festival, in yes, Monroeville, Alabama, home of one Harper Lee! I'm excited!
Yes, I've got a new ArtSpeak: RED poem for you! This one has a summer theme, and that's probably because the weather in these parts has made a shift toward warm with high daily temps around 70 degrees. Bring on the flip flops. YAY!
Late June Afternoon
Curious clouds
are first
to whisper
Blue waves
are first
to sigh
Summer-drunk ducks
are first
to splash
Red boats
are first
to fly.
- Irene Latham
Oh such fun! "Summer drunk ducks are first to splash" puts me in a summer frame of mind!.
ReplyDeleteLove those summer-drunk ducks, Irene! I feel like I've been celebrating spring on TLD for at least a month already. Summer temps are just around the corner! Somewhere there's a red boat waiting for me. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have warmer temps, too, exciting to look forward to those "ducks splashing". Actually Ingrid & I walked along a lake, then stream the other day & the ducks were splashing. The poem fits the picture so beautifully, Irene. Have fun at all your outings!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem, Irene! I love this series. And...your schedule sounds busy and exciting. I'm sure you will do it great justice. I'm a tad jealous of the Monroeville gig.. who would not love that?!
ReplyDeleteI too love those summer drunk ducks.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, sweetie! I love those whispering clouds :-)
ReplyDeleteSummer-drunk ducks/are first/to splash-your word play is inviting, Irene. Here's to summer weather!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you and Miss Fancy this week when I saw a pair of elephant socks! I'm sure the festival will be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSummer is still a few months away, and although spring is trying to break through, it is still chilly and quite windy here in CT. This made me appreciate your summer poem even more. I especially love those sighing waves. Ducks make an appearance in my poem this week, too. Hooray for ducks!
You sure are busy, but joyfully so. Enjoy your visits. I love this simple poem form and the suggestion of summer.
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for summer-drunk ducks! Quack, quack! We've been thrilled with 50 degrees, but 70 sounds heavenly. Cheers! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
