Hello and Happy Poetry Friday! Be sure to visit Jama's Alphabet Soup for a feast of a Roundup.
I've been crafting! When I saw some "Alabama" shaped ornaments cut from old quilts, I thought, hmm, I can do that....and I did! :)
This week's ArtSpeak: Animals poem is for anyone (like me!) who's feeling a bit worn and weary here at the end of the year. Thank you for reading!
At Seawhenever you're
feeling weathered
remember: waves
can rise feathered
and crane's
whitecapped wings
can unravel sky,
stir a hundred dreams
- Irene Latham
Love those quilt ornaments (hearts are my favorite)! And your "At Sea" is lovely -- "stir a hundred dreams." Yes!
ReplyDeleteI have a raggedy quilt, hmmm. Love your newly-crafted ornaments, Irene & your wish to look for goodness in what waves can offer to us. I do know this use of the word "weathered" but love the way you offered hope from it in your poem. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteOh, those ornaments! What a perfectly lovely idea. You made a whole flock of them! Thank you for the crane wisdom - appropriate for my current life situation; I'll hafta tell you the story! xo
ReplyDeleteHow did you know? I want to use this poem with students. Is it OK with you? And, hmmmmm state shaped ornaments? I can do that! Stay tuned for a Virginia version. Gosh, you are generous with your ideas. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous poem! Thank you for those whitecapped wings. Also, I wish Minnesota had a more geometric shape :>D
ReplyDeleteOh, this is wonderful Irene. "waves can rise feathered" ... I love it. Thank you for sharing! I also love the art you paired with your poem. Happy Poetry Friday!
ReplyDeleteI love how you connected the waves, the wings, and the sky. LOVELY!
ReplyDelete"waves can rise feathered" - *sigh*
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, Irene. I too love those feathered waves. That feather-brush of hope.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I am currently reading Katrina Nannestad's historical novel, 'Waiting for Storks' - so this image and poem doubly resonates.
Love this, especially now that I live in a country with a crane on the flag!
ReplyDeleteLook at how the waves and the crane share their feathers...lovely. I'd have trouble cutting up a quilt, I think, but those look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAh, the hopefulness of this poem! And your ornaments are so cozy and lovely. ❤️
ReplyDeletewhitecapped wings! there is joy in this weathered poem. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love "waves can rise feathered." Also, those ornaments! I think we have some old partially finished quilts from my great-grandmother. That would be a beautiful use of the pieces.
