ARTSPEAK Poem for the Joy of Reading

Hello and Happy Poetry Friday! Be sure to visit Catherine at Reading to the Core for Roundup. I've been on the road this week, enjoying the fresh green scenes as they roll past my window. And a few times, I stopped, to take a break and READ.

Is there anything more glorious than reading outside, in spring?

Once Upon a Story Orchard

I am rooted—

in a swaddle

of green
        and sky.

Words spring
from pages,

I am first
to bl O O M

- Irene Latham

  1. I can't think of anything much more enjoyable than reading outside! I love this poem with its rich word choices. But my favorite part is the title! I love the idea of a story orchard.

  2. A story orchard! What an idea. I just want to sit with that for a while. Just the two words combined bring me joy.

  3. I need to celebrate that 'tomorrow' & Sunday we will have the seventies & indeed I can read out of doors! "I am first to bloom" is a great ending, Irene. It is a beautiful painting, too.

  4. I love the 'swaddling' of your story orchard bloom, Irene. Lovely. :)

  5. I'm envisioning an animation of what you've described, with you reading the poem. Lovely!

  6. What a wonderful poem to celebrate two of my favorite things: reading and spring!

  7. Reading outside is still a way off from Wisconsin, but I'm loving the thought and your poem--especially the "swaddle / of green / and sky." Perfect!

  8. "cozy in a swaddle of green and sky" I love how you place your specific words to paint the perfect image of being outside on a spring day. Happy Spring!
